Linda Pastan, What We Want

I plan to post extracts and links to poems by Linda Pastan this month. I'd give the poems, whole themselves, but that would violate her ownership and copyright.

So to begin:
What We Want

But what we want appears
in dreams, wearing disguises.
We fall past,
holding out our arms
and in the morning
our arms ache.
We don't remember the dream,
but the dream remembers us.
